In the beginning Fowler reacts how any person would when it comes to the death of a friend or family member, mourning. He does nothing but sit around the house with his wife Ruth and cries, denying his friend’s plea to go drinking with them. Then he finally succumbs to the invitations when Ruth tells him to go out and take his mind off the situation.
Killing” the short story by Andre Dubis was interesting from the beginning to the end. Spoiler it is about to murders but if you look behind the murders it could also be a love story. The loving father Matt is at the funeral of his son. The entire story I was trying to put myself inside of Matt’s shoes and thinking about what I would want for my future children and if someone killed him and the potential I had dreamed of for years that he would achieve. Matt would envision the night his son was killed several times throughout the story and this is just a reminder that Matt wanted his son back in any form in this case it was in memory.

It was first published in The Atlantic Monthly in July 1960 and won the "Atlantic First" award. Each of the two stories have many likenesses and differences, in addition to focusing on the three same ideas. These three ideas are war, brotherhood, and regret. The war in “The Sniper” is an actual war.
In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, the author is commenting on war in a way in which people will change and be violent to protect themselves and others, even though they understand the pain of being hunted. Rainsford, a boy who washed up on the shore of the forbidden island, was hunted by General Zaroff, a general who got disinterested in hunting animals, so he created a new game in which hunted people instead. Unfortunately, Rainsford’s arrival provided General Zaroff with new prey. Rainsford understood what it was like to be hunted by General Zaroff, but in the end, he still hunted and killed Zaroff for his own, and others to later be trapped on the island’s survival. When Paul returns home in chapter 7 of All Quiet On The Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, things appear different than when he left them. Although the surroundings are familiar, Paul himself has changed, and this change has affected his manner of viewing the world around him. He also finds that he can no longer fit in or connect with the world and people around him because of how alien they feel to him. Paul’s change in character has changed the way he views the world because he no longer feels like he fits in with the people at home, he feels uncomfortable with his surroundings wherever he goes, and he can no longer connect to the world around him, the world he grew up in and once knew. War is by far the most horrible thing that the human race has to go through. The participants in the war suffer irreversible damage by the atrocities they witness and the things they go through. In the novel “All Quiet on the Western Front" is the description by Erich Maria Remarque of the graphic violence and gore and the psychological pain that the average soldier endured on the western front.

The main protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, an American author and hunter, and the antagonist, General Zaroff, a hunter as-well, have similar views in the concept of dominance and killing animals for their own pleasure. Throughout the events of the story, both characters, ironically, switch between being the ‘hunter’ and ‘huntee’ through the development of the story, and it explores the different strategies, thoughts, and feelings they experience in their situations. The theme of “The Most Dangerous Game” concentrates on the human tendency for superiority and power under any circumstance, no matter how inhumane. The theme is demonstrated through the beliefs and actions of the characters, along with the conception of the game.

“Killings” written by Andre Dubus is focused on the main character and protagonist Matt Fowler. Matt is the father of three known children in the story, Cathleen, Steve, and his youngest, Frank. Matt had his children with his wife and business partner Ruth Fowler. In the beginning of the story Matt is laying his youngest son, Frank, to rest in the cemetery after he was brutally murdered by the story’s main antagonist, Richard Strout. At the time of his death, Frank was in school and majoring in economics (63) and had a very bright future ahead of him, after all, he was only twenty eight years old.
