The Miracle Worker
The Miracle Worker is a movie based on Helen Keller’s childhood and the hardships she faced growing up. Growing up as a deaf and blind child, she faced difficulties when trying to communicate or navigate her way through places. Although she had her family to help her, she was considered spoiled because of her “impairment” she had no control over. However, with perseverance and the determination her family and mentor provided, she was able to learn as a deaf-blind individual. After watching the movie, it shows that anything can be achieved. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much,” an inspirational quote by Helen Keller shows how anyone can overcome their difficulties with the help of others. Whether it is done alone or with others, as long as there is a sense of determination, it can be accomplished. At first, Captain Keller was not satisfied with Annie’s work, thinking there was no hope in teaching Hellen. They believed she had a mind of her own and had to tolerate it. Later on, Annie and Captain Keller discuss how many more weeks Annie has to make it up to Captain Keller’s expectations. Seeing this cooperation come through, Annie was allowed to have another week of teaching Helen. After this, Annie was able to teach her because of the teamwork between her and Helen’s family. Helen herself was able to adapt as a deaf-blind individual because of multiple people, not just herself. Progressively, Helen was able to learn more and more with the mentor her parents provided her and the support they provided Annie. In the end, together they were able to accomplish much more than teaching Helen how to communicate; they taught her how to be part of
