“Thirteen Reasons Why” is the captivating story from the point of view, third-person omniscient, of Clay Jensen, a high school boy who is seventh to receive tapes from Hannah Baker, the girl who killed herself one week before. Although there is not much dialogue, conversations between characters, the reader has well-informed knowledge of experiences and events that were revealed through the monologue, when one person is speaking alone not in a conversation, which Hannah delivered through the tapes. The tapes Hannah sent out were a set of seven caset tapes, each with a recording front and back, except tape seven, each side had a different person and her experience with that person that contributed to Hannah ending her life. Multiple times throughout the tapes she foreshadows, indicating a future event before it actually happens, the people and their reasons to come, although she did so very vaguely. What is quite surprising is that through the tapes we learn more about Clay and seem to learn less about Hannah, yes we know these reasons of why she did the things she did, but she very rarely talked about how it affected her, yes it led to her suicide, but why? She never very clearly stated why those things affected her the way it led to. We did, however, learn more and more about Clay, and how Hannah effected him when she was alive and when she died. It is quite interesting to read “Thirteen Reasons Why” because the perspectives change with the narrator, the person telling the story, the narrator switches from Clay in the present listening to the tapes, to Hannah narrating through the tapes. The tapes were never listened to all at once, throughout listening Clay tends to stop the tape to comprehend what she is saying and because most of the time he was interrupted by the school or other people. The setting, the place where the story is happening, takes place in a small town named Crestmont, there is only one hospital, high school, and park, and everyone knows one
