The stress that is currently on the healthcare system is proportionate to that of the average Canadian, which coincidentally is one of the subsidizing influences on the system. Along with ongoing high stress levels, poor nutrition, lack of sleep and exercise are also large contributing factors. Residing in a society vastly uneducated in basic preventative health care, the disarray and decline of the health care system has long been inevitable. Luckily western civilization has begun awakening to the reality that unless change occurs maintaining the trilogy of affordability, accessibility, and sustainability will become overwhelmingly problematic. Although at times addressing nutrition can be a sensitive subject it is arguably the most important factor in leading a healthy lifestyle it is important to consider and determine whether nutrition may be an underlying cause of the client’s pathology. If evidence supports your hypothesis it is fundamental to present your conclusion. Examples of this include gout being affected by rich foods and obesity depositing an intolerable amount of weight on joints and other structures. While it is important to remember not to become overly invested in popular health fads, RMTs should remain educated on the current scientific beliefs on proper nutrition or have a relationship with a registered nutritionist so that patients can be referred out if need …show more content…

Most if not all Canadians experience some form of stress. Stress is caused by the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) for primal reasons, some of which can be remarkably helpful in particular situations. Such as being chased by a tiger or a research paper due the following morning. Sadly due to a glitch in the flawless design of homo sapiens sapiens the SNS often misinterprets neutral effectors as being negative and propels the brain into a state of extreme distress. It is important that patients are educated about the effects that stress can have on the body physically and mentally, although massage can be very beneficial for lowering stress levels RMTs must stay inside the scope of practice and should not give medical advice. Refer patients with extreme stress to see a professional or one could also recommend joining a yoga class or deep breathing
