Allan Greer a historian specializing in the time era of 1450-1800 in North America, reviews the Upper and Lower rebellions of Canada. He focuses on research that was founded after 1960 to establish his argument. Greer argues that the Upper Canada rebellion was a direct result of the Lower rebellion. Further, Greer mentions that the St Thomas Liberal editorial published a statement,“‘to hold meetings and to express body and above board their determination to rise or fall with their brethren in Lower Canada,’” coinciding with Greers argument that the Lower rebellion happened before the Upper rebellion because St Thomas at the time was part of Upper Canada. This is a fair statement to make as he did do a lot of work in the Indian Independence Struggle (from here on out referred to at the Struggle) but he was not the only person involved. There were many activists and great leaders that have gone unmentioned throughout the Struggles written history. Here these individuals and groups will be exposed and the truth of their works and their true efforts acknowledged. They played a massive role in the independence of India possibly more so than Gandhi himself.

Death is something that will eventually happen to everyone, but there are so many different ways of people that deal with death around them. There are some people who don’t deal with death well, so they become mentally and emotionally unstable for their entire life. On the other hand, there are people who accept death for what it is and take the necessary steps to become more tolerant to it. In Being Mortal, by Atul Gawande, he speaks about the various aspects (such as the cost of taking care of elderly people) that surround death that people often neglect. Death can be a very taxing area of discussion, but once people accept its cruel nature they can overcome the burden it brings.
The book Wonder by R.J. Palacio was filled with eye opening precepts. As I read the book I felt that one precept stood out most of all. This was the September precept “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.”- Dr. Wayne Dyer. I fell this means that you should choose kindness over the ability to be right.

It seems like it’s the most useful tool in power struggles between rulers and political systems. In the United States alone four presidents Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley, and John F. Kennedy died at the hands of assassins.
In the novel, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, nine distinct stories are told that depict families or people of Indian descent who experience different situations and circumstances that affect their lives. Many themes arise throughout the stories, but one that is prevalent through two specific stories, Mrs.Sen’s and Interpreter of Maladies, is the idea of cultural assimilation. Mrs.Sen’s and Interpreter of Maladies both portray the idea of cultural assimilation, but in different ways. Mrs.Sen’s is an example of a woman who resisted cultural assimilation in order to preserve her Indian heritage, while Interpreter of Maladies is a story that depicts a family who have fallen victim to cultural assimilation, thus losing a sense of connection to their Indian roots and being conformed into American culture. Lahiri uses the recurring motif of physical objects and actions to illustrate the various effects cultural assimilation has on certain people.

Worth noting is that his achievements contributed to scholarship because several people and particular to his Indian community looked up to him. Besides, he and other scholars had undergone through different experiences in the hands of the white man. They believed they were superior to the people of India, therefore it did not matter what the people of India believed or how British actions made them feel. In “The Mark of the Beast”, Rudyard Kipling uses symbolism to portray ignorance and arrogance in India brought on during its colonization by Britain. The character of Fleete exemplifies that ignorance and insensitivity, and he ultimately pays a grave price. Rudyard Kipling was able to experience both India and Britain growing up.
