Researchers argue that the discrimination people of color face has lessened over time and the barriers between whites and blacks have weakened. Casual Racism, An Aspect Of Society: Rhetorical Strategies In Get Out Although blatant acts of racism have diminished since the 1900’s, acts of casual racism are now predominant in America. In the film, Get Out, written and directed by Jordan Peele, Peele claims that acts of casual racism are aimed at ethnic minorities. Peele begins to build his credibility by addressing issues of casual racism in the text, targeting the White liberals as his audience, using constraints to encourage empathy for his character Chris, and by covering the controversial issue of America being a “post-racial” society as the exigence in Get Out. Vincent has struggled all his life to overcome genetic discrimination. He has a dream of traveling into space, but is reminded on a daily basis he is not capable because of his genetic disorder. My first judgment was that, it was wrong for Vincent to take someone else’s identity. The reason I feel this way is that he has his own identity and should learn to believe in himself. Yes, I also do think it is wrong for him to be discriminated due to his disorder, but there may have been other ways around it.
Rhetorical Analysis: Race and Society Race in society has been an extremely controversial topic for many years. Racial tensions were high in the past because of that people's feelings and beliefs have been passed down causing racial tensions to continue into today. A white officer can't even defend himself against someone of a different race because they will get nation wide attention for it. Prejudice still exists today causing people to feeling uncomfortable around different racial groups. Today many people believe that racial differences have made many strides to bettering society but others believe that much more work needs to be done.
Prejudice is very harmful , a type of bullying. Prejudice often leads to bad habits and depression. The book The Skin I’m In, written by award winning author Sharon G. Flake, is completely based on prejudice and how the protagonist recovers from her bad side. The protagonist in the book is Maleeka, a poor dark skinned girl.
To advance in society, the characters must stick together and not attempt to tear each other apart. It is hypocritical for someone to condemn another person for something that they also practice; “colorism and traditional U.S. racism are inextricably intertwined, yet distinct” (Harris 54). However, this demonstrates how racism has influenced the thoughts of those oppressed by it. It is ironic that although Janie is the person with the lightest skin and has grown up in a white household, she does not have these views. The people with darker skin have these colorist views toward her.
In fact, one should not judge someone on their appearance at all. “A n---- would not pass the Radley Place at night, he would cut across to the sidewalk opposite and whistle as he walked.” (Lee 5). This demonstrates that the south was very much segregated, and the racism was horrible. This was very normalized in the south to be afraid of white people if one was black, which is disappointing looking back now.
Race is the social construct of social identities. We distinguish the uniqueness of individuals in such ways that our genotype and phenotype are closely associated to classifying these individuals into a particular race. Our culture, physical characteristics, and ethnicity separates us into five different categories of race: Black/African American, Yellow/Asian (including Pacific Islanders), Red/Native Americans, Brown/Hispanic/Latino, and White/Caucasian. Throughout history, darker complexions were often looked down upon. White skin becomes more favorable and are seen to be more superior than the other colors, creating this ideology that justifies inequality.

Aspects of the novel that showed prominent moments of racism included the arguments between Gerald Mortlock and Jimmy Raven, Walter’s reputation because he is an Indigenous Australian, David’s fight outside the pub and all the silent moments in the pub when David and Walter entered. One scene that made me best understand the theme of racism was the scene when Gerald Mortlock was going to build a dam, but Jimmy Raven stopped him and the two started arguing. Jimmy became angry and started to tell Clarry what Jimmy thought about the situation.
