I the 1960’s chicanos were pay discriminated and racially attacked. The chicanos and Philpano movement lead by Chezar Cheves granted illegal, and legal farm workers better wages. Although the unequal pay for chicanos is this happening the times are about to get a lot worse for them.

As alarming as this sounds, it's clear that prejudice is not a distant issue; it is an insidious force woven into the fabric of our daily lives and stemming back 100s of years. I feel like everyone has had to wear a mask at some point in their life. People are always so afraid of other people’s opinion and what they’ll think. It is evident in the poem, that at that time blacks were still afraid of what other people would do if they really said how they felt. They would put on this act that made them seem happy to be free, but behind that they would still be upset about all the rights they still didn’t possess, line one “We wear the mask that grins and lies”. For all Americans, the 1930s were dark and difficult times. Following the stock market crash of 1929, the United States entered a long period of economic recession, known as the Great Depression. Historically, African Americans have faced discrimination in the criminal justice systems. During the early 1800’s, the system has formed laws to discriminate against African Americans. These laws are recognized as the Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow laws were regulations passed after slavery that created different guidelines for African Americans and Caucasians (Constitutional Rights Foundation, 2016) These decrees were purposely put in place to hinder African Americans from interacting with Caucasians.

When I first heard about the race test in class, I was excited about it, because race issues is very relevant in our country today, so I thought this test would show how we as individuals feel about other people, just based on their race. This is how I felt about the race test before I completed the test, and this is how I felt after I completed the test. It didn’t matter what the results were, I was and still is very interested in what my true feelings are about racial groups, in this case African American vs European American, and since I’m an African American woman, who is surrounded a lot by European Americans, I knew it would be important to see if I felt a stronger preference for either racial group. While I was taking the test, it made me think of my prior racial bias against my own racial group, African Americans, and how I once ignorantly thought that African Americans were beneath European Americans.
