In the United States of America today, racial profiling is when an individual is accused of committing a crime because of their race. There has been a lot of conversation about this topic whether racial profiling is okay or it’s considered as being racist and law enforcement can not stop and search someone because of their race. Racial profiling is a bad idea because people are being judged and might feel harassed because of their race. When minority groups feel that they’re under constant suspicion, they’re less likely to trust police with information that can be vital to solving crimes. This is one reason some law enforcement groups oppose racial profiling. Research has shown that African Americans are more often stopped by the police than White Americans. Also, there have been cases where Hispanics, Arabs, Asian and even religious groups such as, Muslims being targeted. There have been some police departments that have created a non- racial profiling policy such as, The Houston Police Department, they have established a policy concerning the prohibition of racial profiling.
It is just the police ’s guess that person committed a crime by the way that person reacts or looks like. There is no guarantee that the police will catch the criminal using racial profiling. Some people who are stopped by the police are criminals who had committed a crime and some people that are stopped by the police are not criminals and they did nothing wrong. “By the Police Department’s own count, more than 45,000 people were stopped…, but the total number of arrested made by the united over those two years was less than 10,000.”

It refers to the discriminatory practice, especially by law enforcement officials which targets individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual 's race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. Racial profiling has been and is still an issue today in almost every part of the United States. American police officers are being used to oppress and surveil historically oppressed people. Police in modern day America are often viewed as tyrannical soldiers rather than peacekeepers. Many officers have a systematic agenda given by their superiors to arrest and harass Black people in order to remain feared and in control. Racial profiling is the biggest reason Black people are being oppressed. It is hard to think that officers interrogate civilians purely based on how they appear but this occurs far too often.
As a young black male in 2017, our society has me racially profiled. Anytime they see a young black male like myself, eyebrows raise. Society does not view us as equals, they view us as a minority even though we are a majority. We are viewed as the ground the walk on. They think we will never amount to anything.
I believe that a police officer has a right to stop somebody for their ethnicity or race. At this very moment we “U.S CITIZENS” are being attacked by Islamic Jihadist’s and I have no problem stopping them for anything. As far as any other race I stand for the police to stop them too. If it’s going to save people’s lives then I’m all for it.
Sure, there are surveys and statistics all over the internet, are these really true? “Not so fast” says the Manhattan Institute, “the charge is police have ‘too many’ interactions with minorities, but this leaves the questions’ too many’ compared to what”? This is exactly the problem we are facing against the opposing opinion. An officer only does a “stop and frisk” if they see something that looks suspicious. This also leads an officer to suspicion by behavioral tensions such as nervousness, threatening behavior, and of course absence of license plate.
Racial Profiling in America Racial profiling is defined as refers to the targeting of particular individuals by law enforcement authorities based not their behavior, but rather their personal characteristics ( The Leadership conference) . This is another mechanism for racial discrimination backed by the law.
