Just the other day a BPD officer took only look at my car and for some reason decided to speed up to me but just as I thought I was about to get pulled over, the officer changed lanes and pulled up to the side of me. Once he was exactly on the side of my car, the officer braked hard to stay exactly on the side of my car; afterwards, the officer simply stared at me. Hundreds of things ran through my mind about the reason this officer was acting the way he was that night; my lights were on, I wasn’t speeding and I wasn’t driving recklessly. This officer backed off as soon as he saw my badge attached to my uniform which made me glad that I didn’t change once I got off work. That experience brought to mind and to the mind of hundreds of citizens is racial profiling.
After reading the article “Jim Crow Policing” by Bob Herbert, I agree with the author that the New York police should stop harass the Black and the Hispanic for no reason. In the article, the author gives the data of the percent of stops that yielded the weapon. The percent of Black and Hispanics have weapon is less than that of the white. It shows that the Black and Hispanics have different color does not mean they are more likely to commit a crime. The police in New York have a degrading way that affect the Black and Hispanics because it seems they only base on their skin color and race to treat the people.
There arises a problem when the officers intended to uphold this law target individuals solely based on their race. In one instance a Black woman was taken out of a car and forced into a building as a policeman watched on. When she emerged all bruised and bloodied, Wright “watched him throw her into a patrol wagon.” (7) The woman was arrested for supposedly being drunk when the officer had clearly seen that she had done nothing wrong and was instead the victim. Wright experienced this same phenomenon himself.
Annotated Bibliography: Racial Profiling This is an annotated bibliography researching the reasons for, effects of, and solutions to racial profiling by law enforcement in the United States. I am researching racial profiling and is it justified in law enforcement.
As citizens of America, we are taught to believe that we are going to be protected by the police and the constitution. In reality the police that are on beat and the courts are finding ways to violate our constitutional rights. Police are finding ways to violate our fourth amendment rights in such ways that makes civilians second guessing whether they are here to serve and protect or just to meet a certain quota. Stop and frisk was implemented to stop the crimes that are on the streets but, instead they are causing racial profiling by the police to African Americans and Latinos. The police are over using and abusing “Stop and Frisk” so they can make arrest and to put fear into young adult’s life.
As Americans we have the rights that we hardly ever use. We don’t feel entitled to use our rights and therefore cops can get away with whatever they want. Ethnic minorities are targeted when they do
Instead of just looking at their actions and looks, they should have a better proof or evidence ready. Anyone can commit a crime. What if the thought that person committed a crime, but later the police finds out that person did not commit a crime. Telling the person or arresting the person because of their race is mean. They can be innocent, but you are arresting them because of their race.
Stop Injustice, End "Stop and Frisk" Do you want to feel discriminated against? No? If you do not want to feel discriminated against then stop "stop and frisk". "Stop and frisk" is a law that caused much trouble for the people of the United States and the people of planet earth. This law allows police and officers to stop blameless people and frisk them.

All questions are self asked when a police officer stops you and can 't think of the reason. Though many people worry about being stopped by the police, the African-American community will worry the most. Though the African-American community isn 't the only crowd to pick on, this community will worry the most compared to any other community. Asian, Hispanic/ Latino and the white community will also worry, those within the Hispanic/ Latino community would be able to comprehend on how the African-American community may feel if one of their brother(s) or sister(s) has been injured or killed due to an innocent
Racial profiling suspicious people of specific ethnicities will create a safer place because if the police were to arrest these people then the crime rates will drop, creating a safer place. " Modifying airport profiling procedures to include scrutiny of race, gender, and age has the potential to impact fundamental consultation rights" (MacDonald). If the police were to use racial profiling as a major part to justify if a person was guilty of a crime, that would create a safer environment. Racial profiling should be allowed for the police to use because it is easier for them to track down criminals.
There are many other people that are being racial profiled and discriminated on such as Arabs, and Muslims. “There is a basic assumption underlying racial profiling in the counterterrorism context, predominantly at airports and border crossings, is most likely to be committed by members of a particular racial, ethnic or religious group (in this context, Arabs and Muslims), and that members of that group are, in general, more likely than non-members to be involved in that type of criminal activity.” (civil rights) Like all the other assumptions that are being made these too are false. Authorities cannot go around racial profiling and discriminate on people just because of their color. This too is wrong and it needs to be stopped.
One of the greatest challenges law enforcement are facing is providing effective policing for minority communities. Some factors that prevent minorities from gaining access to justice or being taken advantage of certain criminal justice services are language barriers, racial stereotyping, and cultural differences. Since the 30 's and 40 's, and even during the 60 's, civil rights activists damaged the police-minority relations in the United States, believing that police only interest are protecting white communities. A big explanation of why there 's a poor police-minority relations in the United States is racism on the part of the individual officers. Many minorities in the United States have continued to complain about being treated more harshly than whites and the Department of Justice believes that racial profiling and police discrimination will continue to be a big problem.
Racial Profiling in America Racial profiling is defined as refers to the targeting of particular individuals by law enforcement authorities based not their behavior, but rather their personal characteristics ( The Leadership conference) . This is another mechanism for racial discrimination backed by the law. According to the The Leadership conference, racial discrimination is not solely on race, but based on religion, ethnicity and national origin.
The many citizens who see it as wrong should not be scared to take a stand but to remind the police departments the many deaths of the unarmed African-Americans who were either beaten or gunned down. As a young black man I see these many issues everyday no agency to police the police, the alibi “I felt threatened”, and racism which are all the wrong reasons to harass people even if they are not breaking the law.
