The Meaning of Family
According to Chicago Tribune, “About 80 percent of Americans have at least one other sibling.” Most know having siblings is not always easiest thing. They can be annoying at times but “Ohana means family. Family means nobody’s left behind or forgotten” (Lilo & Stitch). The true story of graphic novel Sisters by Raina Telgemeier present the reader with the tough real life choices that family’s experience. Sisters demonstrates that no matter what challenges occur at home; the meaning of family is what is most important at the end of the day. Telgemeier explains these struggles by taking the reader through the relationship of her and her little sister, Amara, that unfolds during a family reunion.

Mom responds, “Girls, it’s okay. Your dad and I … well, we wanted to spend some time apart this summer” (168). Raina made a huge step in realizing the meaning of family. Family isn’t always forever but spending every moment you can with them is important. As a reader you being to see Raina change throughout the story. She begins to see how important it is to cherish moments and the people around you, you call family. Raina sees she needs her family to fall on and to pick them up during hard times.
Sisters is a unique and well written book, with “perfectly” placed flashback, that many can relate to through the difficult struggles of family. Through Raina’s teenage personality and eye opening story, Telgemeier reveals how relationships evolve in a family. This book is targeted towards young teens, but also those who knows what it is like to have siblings. Sister’s is a great book that makes you able to connect your life with Rania’s. Those who enjoy reading true fiction story will love Raina Telgeimiers story and never be able to put it
