Someone's happiness can be defined in a number of ways that differ from everyone else's definition of happiness. Some might say that they are truly happy because they have wealth or they can spend money on material things. Others might say activities and exercising can make someone feel happy, but not everyone does the same activities such as going out or working out. There are many different meanings of happiness for everyone whether it be money, exercising, taking vacations, or just going out. The happiness in my life comes from the people I choose to surround myself with such as spending time with my family and friends daily.

In the article, “What Makes You Happy?” the author, Rani St. Pucchi, goes into detail that happiness isn’t a lesson that one person can teach us to be. Some people might think if they are depressed they will never know how to happy or achieve any kind of feeling that comes close to being happy. It is up to the person to reach and pull out the happiness they have from within themselves. One person simply cannot tell another person to be happy without the other person wanting to actually be happy or genuinely smile and laugh about something. Most of the time I’m smiling because I realize that my life isn’t too bad although it may seem like it at times. Finding the good in things really helps me find my happiness and the weight that is lifted off my shoulders because I don’t worry about things that don’t really matter to me as much. Another point the author focuses on is the idea that many people might find their happiness with material things such as shopping, getting away on vacation, or just on other people. The author explains that “such happiness is fleeting because it is dependent on things, people and circumstances outside of us and thus can just as easily be taken away” (St. Pucchi). In other words people who rely on other people and materialistic things will not understand the feeling of long lasting happiness. Parks, an assistant professor at the Hiram College that teaches a class on the science of happiness, provides research stating “happiness is a combination of how satisfied you are with your life (for example, finding meaning in your work) and how good you feel on a day-to-day basis” (Parks). I agree with this article because happiness to me definitely doesn’t depend on the amount of money I have or getting away, my happiness comes from the accomplishments in my life and who I surround myself with daily. Money and vacations are great, but they are only a temporary happiness unlike the happiness some feel because of the satisfaction they have with how they
