Music is everlasting but changes all the time: Some genres of music are becoming popular; others were popular in the past while some belong to the classical genre. Rock and rap are popular all over the world today and have always made a big influence on the people’s lifestyles. Rock is the genre of music that evolved from different genres like country and blues. Unlike rock, rap music can be regarded as a subgenre of hip-hop, a great music genre that also evolved from blues. Rock and rap possess some other features that make them differ; they have some similarities too. Three things I will tell why Rock music are different from rap music and they are some of similarities.

The first feature that rap and rock music have in common is that both of them were born in the USA in the second half of the 20th century. Rap music appeared in New York City in the 1970s mostly among African American population as a result of block parties’ popularity in Bronx District. Inspired by the Jamaican community, DJs used to play soul and funk attracting crowds of people. Certainly, the execution of rap in the streets remains the tradition of the black neighborhood.

Rock music is “traditionally centered on the electric guitar, which emerged in its modern form in the 1950s with the popularization of rock and roll” (Curtis 68-73). It is a sound that mostly rotates around bass, guitars, and drums as well as the keyboard. SO, bass guitar, drums and rhythm guitar make up the rhythm section. However, there are examples of compositions of virtually using all known musical instruments in rock.
