There is an age-old philosophical question about whether people are born good or evil. However, people are forced to be evil by nature. Some of the main reasons are the nature of survival, narcissism, and bias. These are the main things that help prove why people are generally inherently evil due to these traits being core functions of the world people live in. A major reason people are made evil is the nature of survival. Surviving is trying to minimize the risks of dying. People will do anything to help ensure they can survive. It is stated that "Life in the state of nature is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short (Hobbes).” The state of being alive is not peaceful as every being needs things to live, including food. However, it stops people from changing their ways. For example, in part 2 of Fahrenheit 451, Montag tries to teach Mildred about books, but Mildred simply ignores this and wants the books gone.Books aren't people. You read and I look all around, but there isn't anybody!”(Bradbury). The ignorance Mildred has caused her to only focus on what she wants, which is that the TV is “better”. People inherently have bias and ignorance. That is not a good trait people have now as if you can’t accept the change, can’t grow, and can’t adapt as quickly, but it helps us predict things that are going to happen. This helps us survive, but makes people unforgiving. On top of this, a study done by the NIH says that throughout the database of 14 countries, bias has been shown to be prevalent based on race, gender, and other qualities (“Bias and Ignorance”). Human nature wants to keep everything to one concept, no matter what can cause pain, suffering, and more. from. The. Because of all this, bias is another reason why people cannot be truly good and lean towards evil to survive. On the other hand, there is a counterargument to this
