Cathedral “Cathedral” by Raymond Carver, was focused on the issue of love and its absences and the bearing of love’s absences on marriage and individual identity. His story was involved in very little “action” with in the plot. Instead, the focus was much more on the dialogue and investigation of the theme. The surface of his story looks calm and banal, but if you go deep into it you can see, full of emotional tension, hidden memories, wounds, longing, hate, anxiety and melancholy. It is all about inner vision. It throws light into the fact that inner vision is more vital than physical vision. It covers various areas of life which include intimacy of relations, importance of communication, need for love and care in relations, and trust. He has issue communicating and relating to others. We learned about his arrogant prejudice nature through his first person point of view narration and his tone. His thoughts and comments reveal much about his personality and his attitude towards the other characters. Beulah differs greatly from the main character. She is gracious, sociable, helps others, and write poetry, which means she is expressive and creative. The blind man Robert, is also friendly.
