How to Read Literature like a Professor Connections
Chapter 1: Every Trip Is a Quest (Except When It’s Not) The main idea of this chapter is literally the title. Every trip is a quest, mostly, whether or not it is stated. There are certain factors that you notice while reading that will give it away. These factors include a character with a specific reason to go to a certain destination and faces so challenges along the way. We can see this concept in “Jason, the Argonauts and the quest of the Golden Fleece.” Here we have a character, Jason. A destination, Colchis. And a reason to go there, to get the Golden Fleece. “Rapunzel” a well-known fairy tale is very similar to the story of Danae. Argos, Danae’s father, locks Danae up in a tower so she has no way of having a baby that will kill him. Zeus then comes along, as a shower of gold, and gets Danae pregnant. In “Rapunzel, “She is stuck in a tower and whenever her prince wants to visit her, she lowers her “golden” hair for him to climb up. She too gets pregnant in this fairy tale. Brick by Boring Brick by Paramore has some reference to fairytales. The lyrics are saying that they are living in a world where the bad isn’t a big bad wolf, but reality. There is a line that says “Go get your shovel, and we'll dig a deep hole, to bury the castle, bury the castle” The castle represents imagination and by burying it, you come to the realization that there is a real world.

Chapter 8: It’s Greek to Me
The main idea of this story is how myths affect literature. Authors reference mythology in order to add perspective to the story they are trying to convey. Myths are seen everywhere in mythology since mythology is a collection of myths. One of the most popular myths could be Heracles, Heracles, and better known as Hercules, is the son of Zeus and is considered one of the greatest heroes of all time. Also there is a Disney film Hercules which tells the story of Hercules. The movie shows all his achievements and how he came to be.
