Ready Player One We are introduced to a different category of genres in Chapter 5 of Literature for Young Adults. The novel, Ready Player One could fall under several of them such as fantasy, science fiction and utopias. The novel is a long book about a world that’s inside a world. It contains a love story along with a high level of technology that can help one create their own perfect place. Ready Player One is about a boy named Wade Watts who is poor, has no parents and is forced to live with his careless and selfish aunt. Because Wade is really smart he is accepted to go to school inside the OASIS. He spends all his spare time trying to find an egg inside the OASIS that a man by the name of James Halliday has hidden somewhere inside the virtual world. They live their lives inside the OASIS. They work, go to school, eat and play inside the OASIS. They can order food and have it delivered to where ever they are in the real world in a matter of minutes. This new virtual world has taken over the real world. Since Wade is so smart and has the same interest as Holiday, he decided to take every opportunity to enjoy all the things Holiday did. Doing these things he gained knowledge and tips on where the keys to finding the egg were hidden. It was a maze and Wade and the Top Five could figure out if they put their heads together. The Top Five is what everyone is calling Wade and the other high score avatars. Wade and the Top Five were competitors competing for the same prize. However, they started to look out for each other and later become friends and more. The virtual lives that people were living were like a science fiction fantasy. In the real world we could never live like that. The entire time I was reading this, I was wondering how fat these players were because they never seemed to get any exercise.
