Bud not Buddy is a historical fiction book about a boy who lived in Flint, Michigan and his mother died 6 years ago, and she left signs of who his father was the signs she left bud keeps in his suitcase. Buds mother signs were that his father was Herman E. Calloway, he was a famous musician.he had no mom or father that left him to be an Orphan. Since he was an orphan he went to a foster home. The home he was in was horrible he was with the amos's Mrs and Mr amos had a son named Toddy, he abused Bud and told lies to get Bud in trouble. Mr. and mrs.
Tons of children and adults were very mistreated because of their race in the 1930s. Bud, not Buddy is about a 10-year-old boy that is black. He gets very mistreated because of his race. His mother died when he was 6-years-old and was in an orphanage. He goes a long way to find his dad, but who he expected was his dad was his grandpa.
Bud Not Buddy, written by Christopher Paul Curtis, is about a ten-year-old boy who embarks on a journey to find his long-lost father after the death of his mother. The book starts off during the Great Depression, when Bud is forced to live in a foster home. He then is adopted by the Amoses, who treat him horribly. This goes to show what harsh conditions people of color had to go through during those times. After that experience, he then ventures off to find his father after finding some sort of evidence he still has family in a briefcase given to him before his mother's death.

Bud at the beginning of the book, is shown as a character with a tough exterior, defiant, and pessimistic character, who is “unable” to cry. Bud being toughened by life, is defiant and pessimistic, but after releasing his hurt that he had hidden for a long period, and finding what he longed for, the character of Bud drastically takes a change in his character.

This book stunk and not in a good way, and I rate this book 1 out of 4 stars. The book consisted of a list of things that were stinky in the boy’s room; there was no plot or real change in the main character or progression of a plot. There was no educational value in the plot, and for exploring rhyme, there are far better choices that are more likely to maintain a child’s attention. The book starts out by naming things that stink and how they came to be in that area, like in the book or in the boy’s room.

What is it like by yourself in the depression? In the book "Bud not buddy" Bud overcame many obstacles. His mother died when he was six, now he's on a quest to find his dad. " Bud not buddy" would be different if he was white including his relatives, because the Amoses would be nicer to him, Lefty wouldn't help Bud and, there would be new people in the band.
This helps her realize all of the caring and positive things her father has done for her, like attending night school to support the family, and risking his own life to find her during a dust storm. Her encounter with this man changes Billie Jo’s perspective on her father, and causes her to head back home. When she arrives, “[her] father is waiting at the station and [she calls] him Daddy for the first time since Ma died” (273). Charlie by, Lee Maracle is about a young Indian boy who goes to a catholic school. Charlie dreams about going outside and exploring but the school will punish him if he does. One a day a group of kids including Charlie sneak out to go to one of their families houses. When they get their Charlie leaves to go to his family’s cabin. Unfortunately his long journey is cut short by frost bite and he dies of hypothermia.
