Maya Angelou once said, “Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible.” During the 1930’s, prejudice ways were very prominent and it was common for an innocent black man to be accused of raping a white woman. Also, there were Jim Crow Laws which separated black people from white people, and the treatment of the black people was much worse than that of the white. Despite To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee being a fictional novel, the situations that occur in the book are based off of real events, as seen in with the fictional Tom Robinson case which is evidently influenced by real life occurrences.
