2018 This essay will analyze the South African controversy of apartheid, concentrating on Nelson Mandela and his role in this. The well-established political theories of Idealism and Realism will be used as a technique of analyzing and evaluating the events of South Africa post 1945, concentrating on racial issues and the influence of Nelson Mandela in this matter. Secondary data will also be utilized and investigated, that has been derived from reliable sources. This is essential since real data will help us understand the events, and their impact on the country as a whole, as well as the actors involved. The theories of Idealism and Realism have been chosen for this particular set of events due to Nelson Mandela’s idealistic set of beliefs and aspirations of social perfection and equality for his country, contradicting the realistic nature of South African politics at the time, with power and self-preservation being the main objective.
