In 1692, in Salem Massachusetts, many people in a small village were being accused of witchcraft and were either executed or put in prison if they said they were not under the control of the devil. A teenage girl, Abigail Williams, wanted to kill the wife of the man she loved. Abigail and many other teenage girls were caught acting strange and dancing in the woods one night. When caught, they were accused of witchcraft. The result of this accusation was to blame other people in the village. Abigail should be held responsible for the imprisonment and execution of innocent people because she influenced the other teenage girls to say they saw the devil to save herself and to eventually kill the wife of the man she loved. Before the mass hysteria in the village occurred, Abigail had an affair with John Proctor who was knowingly married to Elizabeth Proctor. When John ended the affair, Abigail wanted to kill his wife so that she could be with John. When in the woods, she wanted her uncle’s slave, Tituba, to cast a spell on Elizabeth to kill her. She should gain responsibility for the mass hysteria. Reverend Parris, her uncle whom she lived with, cares more about the church and his daughter than he does watching after Abigail. The other adults in her life were John and Elizabeth Proctor. Elizabeth could not be a good example of a role model because she is too sickly and too dependent. Also, John could not be a good example of parental guidance because he cheated on his wife and had an affair with Abigail. Even though abigail did not have proper guidance and was very immature, she should still gain full responsibility for the mass hysteria in the village because without her influencing the girls saying that they saw the devil, none of this would have ever
