Topic 9.4 / The Aftermath of the Reconstruction In Topic 9.4, my class learned the aftermath of the reconstruction with three different essential questions. One of the essential questions is to “Summarize the events that led to the end of Reconstruction”. Another one of the essential questions is to “Explain how the rights of African Americans were restricted in the south after Reconstruction”. The third one of the essential questions is to “Identify industries that flourished in the “New South”. To add, the first essential question is to “Summarize the events that led to the end of Reconstruction”. One of the reasons why Reconstruction came to an end was because the government forced Reconstruction to happen. When the government forced Reconstruction, it (the plan to force Reconstruction) worked for a while, but then it (the plan to force Reconstruction) did not work after a while. Another reason why Reconstruction came to an end because of the election of 1876, or 1877. After the election, Rutherford B. Hayes won and ended the Reconstruction era this was also another reason why Reconstruction came to an end. …show more content…

The main reason why was because of the Jim Crow Laws. The Jim Crow Laws affected African Americans a lot especially in voting because when anyone votes, there are some rules like the Grandfather Clause, the Poll Tax, the Literacy Test, etc. The Grandfather Clause is if your grandfather could vote you could vote. The Poll Tax is when you have to pay a tax to vote. Literacy Test is when you have to take a test that will test you on your knowledge of something relating to America, but you have to pass the test.
