Reasons Why Horse Racing Should Be Banned

Horse racing should be banned because of all of the awful things that go on in the horse racing industry. Horses are being drugged and whipped. They are also getting hurt and being sent to slaughterhouses without a second thought. Horse racing should be banned because of what these poor animals are put through on a daily basis.
Firstly horse racing racing should be banned because horses are getting hurt. Trainers start racing horses when they are two years old (PETA). Racing a horse that young, when their bones are still developing can cause them to break easy . This is why many race horses die, their bones are not fully developed and so when they race it takes one wrong placement of the foot and their ankle will snap. Most horses can’t stop when they are running so they keep running with the injury until they fall and roll. Horses could die on the spot, be killed, or trailered to a slaughterhouse without any pain relief or veterinary help. Starting to race at 2 years old could mean a horse would have to go through years of pain before they would retire it and at that point it would probably be sent to the slaughterhouse.

A reason for a horse to be sent to a slaughterhouse is if it hasn’t already died from a terrible injury or because they are not winning and the owner/trainer does not want to put the time and effort into it anymore. In a slaughterhouse they don’t care if a horse is an all time champ or if it won a few races they are just there for the money. Workers at a slaughterhouse are not allowed to complain or report something because they will get fired (PETA). Slaughterhouses take in large groups of horses and go through one by one and kill them, they then take the meat and send it to different countries which will then sell it to be consumed by dogs and people.
