It is inevitable to talk about reconstruction without mention the civil war era. I personally believe that if the civil war did not happen, there would not be a reconstruction era nevertheless, equal right issues would still play a huge part on today's society. The civil war was not totally about slavery, but two parties fighting to lead the congress and consequently have more power, union and confederacy. Moreover, the reconstruction time was one of the most important era in the United State of America history. I believe the radical reconstruction was more challenging for the southerners to fulfil compared to the presidential reconstruction.
