Divided by blood, Mare’s world is beginning to crumble. In Mare’s world, it is unfair; the silver-blooded people are rich and happy while the red-blooded people are poor and live in poverty. Mare, in an unexpected way, discovers her life has been a lie and she too has silver blood. In the novel Red Queen, silver blood may have power but, when you mix red and silver blood, it’s the most powerful thing of all. Mare thinks the silver-blooded are greedy and selfish; once she discovers her power, she wants to make a change. Power doesn’t corrupt people, people corrupt power. In Mare’s mind, the Silvers are selfish and greedy. She lives in a world where red- blooded people are poor, and Mare believes that is unfair. For example, “Our house is small even for the stilts” (Aveyard 12). Where Mare lives, everyone’s house is small while the Silvers have endless money and have more than one house. However, she also thinks that there needs to be a change in her life. Someone needs to see what the Silvers are truly doing to the world. Mare, all her life, has thought she was just plain old ordinary, that is, until she discovered her powers. Although she has red blood, there is a hint of silver in it, which gives her the power to manipulate lightning.
