Reflection On Service Learning

When doing our service learning project my group and I gave back to the community. We went to the boys and girls club and worked there for 3 hours packaging food and other items that they needed us to do. When doing this, it wasn’t about the hours that we put in to do this. It was about doing what is right and giving back to the community. Some people in this world don’t have things given to them like others. They don’t have the life that they wish they could have. But they are thankful for the help they get from people that provide it. It was a great experience for me to get. To see the looks of people smiling and just having a good time talking was more than enough to ask for. The way that good works in the Christian’s life is by showing that you want to give back to the community. Not for your sins, but for the people that need it. In this world too many people are worried about getting their sins fixed and going out to give their service not for others but for their self. Luther echoed what Saint Paul said in the Romans 5 and explained in more detail in his letter to the Galatians. Paul says, “While we still were sinners, Christ died for us” (Roman 5:8). When we trust this, Luther declares, we are freed from the law, begin to honor God, and we are united with Christ. If Luther and Paul were correct that good works don’t come into play in our salvation, then good works like our Service Learning Project are of utmost importance in the Christian’s life.
