Throughout my years of education, I have learned very little about the holocaust. I remember touching on the holocaust and watching movies and reading books that focused on what happened during that time period during my high school career. Since I graduate high school, I have not taken a class that focused on the holocaust. Some basic facts I remember learning is that it began in 1933 when Adolf Hitler came into power and then ended 1945 when the Nazis where defeated by the allied powers. Hitler and his Nazis soldiers’ main goal was the kill the Jewish people by fire. The Jews were easily recognized because they were forced to wear a yellow start known as the Star of David. One evening during this time the Nazis soldiers forced the Jews to live in “Ghettos”. Some of these were opened and allowed the Jews to leave and return by curfew, while others forced the Jews to stay in these confined quarters. The Jews were latered transported to concentration camps where they lived in harsh conditions and sometimes sent to the furnace to be burned and killed. This book was a required reading for me in eighth grade and also in Tenth grade. The book told the story of Eli and his experience during the holocaust. From the book, I learned about how the prisoners were transported to the concentration camps. In addition, when they arrived to the camps women and men were split up and that when eli was separated from his mom and sister. He says when he got there it smelled like burning flesh. By reading the book, I learned about the conditions at the camps and what the prisoners went
