Throughout this summer, I have grown not only as a writer but as a person. This class as well as my other English class have taught me numerous things. These two English courses have increased my skills as a reader, writer, and thinker. From learning about the Civil Rights Movement, important authors, and researching topics such as nature versus nurture, each have played a role into developing me into a better person. In this class, writing the paper over Music of the Movement increased my knowledge of the Civil Rights Movement and how people used lyrics in songs to voice their opinions. Music is a form of outlet for people to explain how they feel at certain times in their life or at a pivotal moment in history. This paper inspired me because I did not realize that people during that time, and even now, use lyrics to express their feelings such as the need for equality in our nation. The parts that I did read left me with countless questions concerning the truth within the narrative. There were various parts in the book that had me questioning just how factual the book actually was. The narrative about the Oatman girls capture made me a better thinker because I could form questions that held a deeper meaning. In my English Composition class, reading the book, The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch truly helped strengthen my reading abilities. I do not like to read, but for some reason this book really caught my attention. The book changed my outlook on life and taught me that I should never take anything for granted. Randy, the author of the book had a very short time to live, yet he made the most out of every moment that he had left on this
