INTRODUCTION For this project, I choose the president of Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC). Dr. Jerry King has been employed by TVCC since 1975. Dr. King started off as an adjunct instructor and worked his way up the ranks to instructor, professor, division chair and then to vice president of instruction before becoming president. During his tenure he has also performed other jobs, such as Mayor of Athens, Texas and at one time had aspirations to pursue politics and ran for a seat in the US Senate.
Greenfield came to RMU to speak to us regarding inclusive excellence and positive change. He led us through a variety of activities that helped the athletic teams bond together and become more like a family. These activities included having a group lead the audience in singing, splitting us into small groups and learning more about people outside of our sport, and the chance to open up to the entire audience about a personal experience that has deeply affected us. He also shared his personal experiences that related to the program he was presenting to us about. Dr. Greenfield’s presentation was a great experience for the athletic department, and the principles he taught us will allow us to grow closer and perform better on the
Movement of Change: An analysis of Turning Points by former UT Presidents William Cunningham and William Powers Jr. As a first-year freshman, I often get asked what my major is and what I plan to do with it. I often reply, “Neuroscience, and a Physician Assistant” but what they do not know is that in the back of my mind I know that my plans will eventually change and I will end up performing what truly feeds my passion. This whole concept of what I am supposed to be doing and the uncertainty in my future is what drove me to this lecture. In this lecture series, I discovered what changed The University of Texas at Austin’s history through Cunningham’s top 10 key points and William Powers’ notable decisions that got him to the high chair.
Benjamin Mays, the youngest of eight children, born August 1, 1894 near Epworth, South Carolina was raised on a cotton farm and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Bates College in Main. He served as a pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church from 1921-1923 in Atlanta, Georgia. Recruited by Morehouse President John Hope, Mays would join the faculty as a mathematics teacher and debate coach. He became the president Morehouse College in 1920 and launched a 27-year tenure that shepherded the institution into international prominence.
At Cleveland High School...there will be thirty two valedictorians this year…” (226). Straight off the bat Talbot adds credit to her ethos by adding in a fact that completely contrasts the last in terms of style: a one-valedictorian-takes-all system versus a system where many hardworking students benefit together, ultimately acknowledging both sides rather sticking to the one she favours. In doing this, Talbot is allowing the readers to decipher for themselves which of these systems juxtaposed is better, or statistically/by other anecdotal opinions which is better, because, again, the majourity of this piece is written through the stories and evidences of other people. Talbot then goes on to denote being valedictorian by adding in points saying it “isn’t entirely suited to a brutally competitive age…
The most significant takeaway that I have from this course would be learning information regarding John Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie. Now, the reasoning behind this is because these two men without a doubt influence the nation more than anyone else during their era and beyond. Furthermore, when looking at each one of these company’s net worth, they easily rival several nations gross domestic profit during this period. Additionally, their businesses employ more people across the country than any other companies of this time. Moreover, once these men reach the pinnacle of the corporate world, each one decides it is time to start giving back to their fellow man.
Why is it important for colleges to have a mission statement? It is important for college universities to have mission statements because it indicates what the college academic policy offers students. Mission statements should provide the organization’s purpose and sense of direction while making the university look attractive within the organization to incoming students. A successful mission statement should be able to covey ethos, pathos and logos in some sort of way which will be used in principles of the mission statements. In this paper I will be evaluating, analyzing and comparing the three mission statements that I picked from University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Coastal Carolina University, and University of Florida along
Initiating and advocating change for students and the community without the expectation of being recognized is what has made me an HBCU All-Star. The moment I came to Nashville to attend the Illustrious Tennessee State University, I vowed to be an advocate for change and lead on and off campus. Countless hours and many sacrifices were made to ensure that my scholarship exemplified academic excellence. Extensive strategic planning and professional development was completed to ensure that my leadership was effective for my student body, local community, and the HBCU community at large. Humble and willing service to my community is what I’ve executed through my civic engagement in political and community affairs.

I have also attended many conferences, and helped plan two People of the Pacific conferences held at Copper Hills and Utah Valley University. In the summer of 2015, I was invited to attend the 13th Annual Youth Leadership Conference at Stanford University. Only 100 students in the nation were chosen. Due to some family circumstances, I’ve had to take on more responsibility at home. I work as hard as I can to be a positive influence for my younger
To my surprise, the leader did well with positive affirmations and allowing those who were silent to feel they were just as important to the group as those who were more
I love when I can relate to a speaker. I feel like when giving a speech the speaker should use real experiences and that’s exactly what Finley did. I also believe a speaker should make their speeches personal. Don’t just give out facts, I like to know what the speaker agrees and disagrees with. Drea Finley excel at this, she gave us two experiences she encounter at Colgate University and she told us how she told her opinion about
Washington’s best friend, Julia Garcia, who was also a motivational speaker mentioned how our campus very diverse so we have to be open to it. Talk to people we have never spoken to. It is one of the best ways to get out of our comfort zone. I was so engaged into what was being said and I was able to slowly analyze the way we are living our lives. However, the turning point to this event was the activity everyone had to participate in.
