my English experience and the participation in English at North Carolina State University as an author has been nothing but memorable and essential, accelerating my writing knowledge for the rest of my scholarly career during my time in College. As a new student to NC State, English 101 was one of the first classes I enrolled in at NC State, as well as being the last English class I’ll ever take in my scholarly career. English 101 has cultivated and refined me as an author, through use of my skills as an author during the disciplinary profile, rhetorical analysis, autoethnography and comparative assignments. The variety of tests within each of these assignments has prepared me for an array of future assignments through my journey through college as an author. This assessment of both my writing skills and authorship continues to increase my proficiency and expertise as an author at a collegiate and professional level, as well as strengthen my readiness for future assignments.
“Everything you sent me to school for, you 're stopping me of it,’I told my aunt…” The humiliation I had to go trough, going into that man’s kitchen… Now going up to that jail… Anything to humiliate me. All the things you wanted me to escape by going to school. Years ago, Professor Antoine told me that if I stayed here, they were going to break me down to the nigger I was born to be.
Students were given a prompt, writing process, and three to four writing block sessions to complete their narrative. These narratives were then graded using a rubric which scores on ideas, content, organization, style, and language skills. This data was then synthesized and used to identify student’s writing strengths and areas students could work on for improvement. Based on the analysis of the narratives, students showed strengths in staying on topic, vocabulary, capitalization, and in subject and verb agreement. The data also showed students could benefit from instruction in paragraph formatting, using transitions, spelling, and writing
Writing About Writing, A College Reader. Ed. Elizabeth Wardle and Doug Downs. Boston: Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2011. 481-495.
In the past, many problems prevented me from writing excellent papers. Throughout my years of writing in school, the papers I have written for this class have challenged me the most. In the beginning of the semester, I did not fully understand how much time and effort I needed to put forth to write a college essay. My past English classes did not prepare me for writing college-level essays, nor teach me the proper way in which to write the papers. The essays I have written this semester have improved immensely thanks to the feedback from both Mrs. Menetre and Mrs. Fleming.
Writing a paper has been always a difficult thing for me to do so. I never interest to writing because I find that a lot requirement to fulfill as a well writing paper. They are choice make up idea of topic, and set up a theme. When actually on writing it, I need use correct words choice, and write a sudden type of paper. Looking back at the writing I have produced throughout this course, I am able to see the areas where I continue to grow and the places that have yet to reach its full potential. By analyzing my writing, this has helped me become aware of my strengths, but also notify me of my weaknesses that need improvement. I have come along way as a writer since enrolling in this course, but there still is room for plenty of improvement. Over this past course, I have found the correct things that have worked for me and the wrong ones that do not.
The women’s rights arguments for abortion involve not only placing an appropriate value on the lives and freedom of women but also accepting that it may sometimes be permissible to sacrifice the life of a foetus. In the early 1970s, the women's movement demanded that abortion be legalized as part of a larger movement for women's rights. It was clear that, without control over their own reproductive lives, women couldn't be the equals of men no matter what advances women made in the job market or in higher education. This is why socialists argue that all women deserve the right to control their own bodies, without interference from anyone. And also in the 1970s, the women's movement demanded legal abortion as a right, which should be available
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
I have always found writing hard but now I enjoy it more. I 'm not going to lie and say that it 's easy for me because it 's hard. I get lost with my thoughts a lot. What I say sounds way better then when I put it down on a paper. I have been wanting to write a small book of something.
In my four years of high school I have taken advanced, honors, and two years of advanced placement English courses. High school has so far prepared me to write fluently and effectively, it has also primarily prepared me for the kind of writing that was required of me in this course. College-level writing is important to me because it has allowed me the chance to further my writing skills and knowledge of different genres of essays. Just this course alone has already taken my writing ability way beyond what I have accomplished at a high school level. College-level writing courses are important because they will teach me how to better convey thoughts, ideas, and facts in simple and clear language.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
