Reflective Essay: Clique Groups In Charter Public Schools

I am currently a high school student and have been recently experiencing being part of groups including one being a clique. I attend Harmony Science Academy in El Paso Texas which is a Charter Public school where most of the students if not all of them, are considered to be “nerds”, that is why there aren't really any “cool kids” on campus. I am senior in Harmony Science and have seen several clique groups such as girl groups, soccer guys, Spanish speaking girls, and basketball guys. Currently I am only part of a clique group that consists of 4 guys including me. The group that I am part of is considered a clique group since we all share unique interests as well as experiences. My friends and I have been hanging out for approximately 6 years now and is why we don't really let anyone new into our group, and it’s not because we don't want anyone new, it's just that it wouldn't feel right after all, that’s what a clique …show more content…

There are two kinds of clique groups which are the in-groups and the out-groups. The in-groups are basically the groups in which you participate in and feel part of, while the out- groups are groups in which you take place in but never feel part of mainly because they don't share the same interests as you. Now, it doesn’t mean that I only hang out with my clique group since there are other groups that I consider to be out-groups because I conversate and have fun with the groups but I’m constantly feeling out of place. Like I mentioned before, the clique that I belong to is definitely an in-group for me because we consider ourselves to be “bros”. O the other hand, I am part of the soccer guys group, which I consider to be an out-group because I don't see my friends as 100%
