Recommended: Essays on teaching english as a second language
In the fall semester of 2015, my English Composition 1 class with 3 classes-per-week started. To conduct this paper I will briefly describe me. I am a freshman with the major of Petroleum Engineering. This information is relevant, in fact, because I will compare my expected major writing and the writing I am using right now. In a way to introduce me to future academic writings, the course of English Composition 1, indeed, has taught me important skills that can help me cope for future non-major required courses for me and in some aspects of my major.
Whenever I think about what I have learned since the beginning of this course—English 101, It always gives me a great pleasure to tell myself and people around me that I have learned something great; something that can make me a better writer. However, I have learned some writing skills based on the course’s teaching learning objectives that can help me in my future courses. Also, I’m glad, because my strength in writing essays have increased. Most especially, writing narrative essay in MLA formatting. I might not be an excellent writer, but I know I have not stopped learning, and I know I will get pay-off in the long run if I can keep the ongoing pace of my learning—guaranteed.
I just want to start off by saying that this class has been so helpful and I have been able to learn so much and also see different perspectives with all of your help. It has truly been a pleasure working with all of you this semester! Even though I had ACC 201 background knowledge with me starting this class I was still nervous because math is not my strongest subject, but there was no need to be nervous. Although the material may have been challenging at times this class provided all the necessary materials and help so I could be successful in this class. I want to specifically thank Professor Chester for always answering all of my questions and making sure I grasped the material.
reflecting on my progress thus far in this course, I have not only become cognizant of my writing skills and habits, but improvements I need to make to become a better writer. Although writing has never been one of my strong suits, I have learned valuable writing skills and strategies that are applicable to both the professional and academic field. Transitioning from the way I have been taught to write as a high school student has been the most challenging and influential change I have witnessed in my writing. To elaborate, in high school, we were taught the basis for writing any essay regardless of the audience or topic was the rigid five-paragraph essay structure.
My eyes automatically drifted to the tall bright palm tree that moved along with the rhythm of the wind. It’s leafs danced as they presented their welcome. The sun shined down and hugged me with warmth, giving my skin a tingling, but satisfying sensation. I had come from Virginia to California, the famous, constantly spoken of state, that finally reached my sight. The state presented its beautiful attributes to capture my wonder and mesmerization.
This includes writing formal essays. This area was a bit difficult for me but I am currently trying to make some improvements on the same so that I can achieve my best. I plan to continue addressing the issue by consulting my course mates who have understood the area very well. I am also planning to seek help from the lecturer whenever I find something that is not easy on the topic. I will also do a lot of assignments on the topic and do more essay writings to improve my writing skills.
Distraction or The article in the New York Times Paper, “Blogs vs. Term Papers” By MATT RICHTEL discusses the controversy of using technology, in this case blog post as opposed to the traditional term paper, in a classroom setting. In his research, Richtel received the opinions of many different individuals from multiple institutions. A few of his sources are currently conducting studies of their own on this topic. The responses he received varied.
Aneesa Diaz Reflective Essay What I liked about collaborating with other writers was being able to hear their ideas. These ideas would help me to find different ways to write or improve what I already know. I also got to hear their opinions and learn more about their perspective. This way, I might learn about my audience. Hearing ideas, other than my own, helps me to assess what I have already done and helped me when I had writer’s block.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
I know for a fact that I have evolved as a learner these last few weeks. I not only know that because it has become easier for me to finish paragraphs and essays faster, but I have also learned the paragraph and essay templates by heart. As being a student that's part of the GT Program, I have had to finish two essays in a week, and I’ve had extra work along with my work in regular language arts and reading classes. Throughout the last few weeks I have learned how easy it is to organize an essay and a paragraph, I’ve learned the steps of writing a novel, and I have learned that being part of the GT Program is a privilege, not a right.
This semester has been an ongoing challenge for me but has been an enjoyable one and I have not been presented with any impossible tasks. I have never been much of a writer, and during the course of this semester, I 've struggled to meet length requirements on the assigned essays. However, I do understand that not everyone is an excellent writer or even has to enjoy writing to get a good grade in this 1A class. From the start, with the first essay, I pushed myself to do my best and looked to multiple outlets to polish my writing, such as the online tutor, the writing center, the internet and the writer 's handbook.
Writing essays and other types of posts has always been difficult for me. But, throughout this composition class, I have learned many interesting and new things about the different types of writing styles. When starting this class, I considered myself to be an average writer with run-of-the-mill vocabulary, ordinary sentence structure and typical finished products. This class has helped me greatly improve my writing skills in a variety of ways. I have learned multiple things by taking this class, such as new ways to approach writing and that there is much that I still need to learn about composition.
Academic success to me is achieving good grades and understanding the material to get good grades. Academic success also means to have an good attendance. I already get mostly A’s and B’s, but I am not good at staying on top of things. To improve my academic success I will attend class more often, be more organized, pay attention in class, and not procrastinate.
Each essay I wrote took me several time to write, several drafts which show that I have improve every time I do the drafts to write a perfect masterpiece. I learned a lot of skills and techniques this quarter, which has helped me to improve and progress my writing skills for the future. I will remember the skills, techniques, and tips that professor gave us in this English class for my higher education. For example, all the time that I went to visit professor Sapozhnikov office hours to receive help on my out-of -class essays has helped me to improve, grow, and progress in my writing skills as a writer. Some of the significant changes I have made as I was progressing and growing were to develop a strong thesis to help support my claims as I write my essays, such as facts, observations, illustration, and examples.
Major assignments -Work Projects- taught me how to write essays and include employed academic documentation (MLA). In this course, I’ve completed various reading assignments, did independent analytical thinking about what I’ve read, participate in discussions on what I’ve read, write about what I’ve read, and carry out research, this emphasis on reading was to show the importance of critical reading, and how it is going to benefit my studies. Understanding this academic essay structure, the use of rhetorical strategies in essay writing, writing a summary, formulating a thesis, and writing essays using rhetorical strategies.
