I became interested in psychology when I joined the mental health club at my college because we introduced activities that includes student eating disorder, breast cancer day and effective study habit to help improve student mental health on campus. This made me interested enough that I decided to get the introduction to psychology textbook to learn more about mental health issues. As I read the Introduction to psychology by Jeffery. S. Nevid. I came to the conclusion that I was going to further in psychology. By the end of that semester I applied at the international center of Kentucky to become a social worker intern. During my internship, I learned about refugee families who had problems of depression, suicide, poverty, and observed how the organization assisted them in rehabilitation through individual assessment, clinical treatment, counseling treatment and financial aid. My research interest was with Dr John Baker, where I studied whether there was a positive correlation between the personality, physical, mental traits of leaders to the leader effectiveness. Through studying business I came across a well known psychologist John Oliver of UC Berkeley, whose works was the Big five model of personality traits. The Big Five personality traits explained a human personality in terms of openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. This model helped me more during my research on whether there was a correlation between a leader dependability, emotional stability to the leader effectiveness. The graduate courses I took include applied statistics where I used SPSS and the Excel in conducting my research.
