Reflective Essay: Life After The Revolutionary War

I wiped the smut off of my face as I crept beneath the farm window. It was winter of 1769 and conditions have never been that worse. From the fifteen years that I have endured those harsh situations, it seemed that every year, I lacked the ability to obtain food for my fellow orphans. I noticed that the farmer left the large barn and I journed in. With my satchel, I crudely snatched the eggs from the hens’ behinds and I gathered them for a feast. To finish my mission, I headed over to the blue tavern. It was quite hard to stand out since everyone there was as grimy and rotten as me. Stealthy, I found my way into the kitchen where I managed to snatch a few rolls and a small cup of rice. On my journey home, I passed the white colonial home that gleamed in the moonlight. In the window, a girl peeked out and released a faint smile. I managed to create eye contact and I left. At the dilapidated shelter, I met with Thomas and Henry. “Ellis, what have you managed to retrieve? Here, I have a pint of milk,” Thomas exclaimed. “Wonderful! We rarely have the opportunity to have such a feast! Being that we are going to be enlisted into the Revolutionary War and all, I believe that we deserve this!” Henry spoke. …show more content…
