Being in English 101 has impacted three different types of writing processes: drafting, revising, and editing. Before I started this class, I never made drafts; I only did pre-writes and the final copy of the essay. Now, I do the pre-writes, then type it and make the draft, and then fix any errors in it. Another writing process that has improved is revising because now instead of reading what I wrote myself, I let my friends, classmates, and teachers read it to see if they understand what I’m writing and if they see any errors. This makes my editing process easier because I know what mistakes I made.
This semester I completed Composition 2. During the course I wrote three essays. Like Composition 1, I had the option to rewrite my papers after seeing the grade. Having the chance to rewrite my papers was very beneficial because I could improve my grade, and more importantly, learn what I was doing wrong. Amongst my writings, three major flaws stood out.
How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
Keep School Sports You have probably seen or heard about your school’s team’s victories or losses. You might wear a T-shirt or sweatshirt advertising the teams. But, to most people, they aren’t considered all too much. Even though you may not give them much thought, they can actually benefit students.
Writing for me is more than just scribbling down words on a paper, it is more personal and a reminder of the challenges and accomplishments that I have achieved throughout my life. In my journals I do not write about my day to day life, but rather focus on important moments throughout my life that had a huge impact on me. When I write about these events I try to do so with as much detail as possible so that when I look back on my words I can relive the whole experience once again. My writing is usually done late at night when everyone is asleep giving me the peace and quiet I need to focus on my work and so that I can write about my experiences with full remembrance of what occurred at the event. Writing plays an important part in my
Shakespearean Sonnets William Shakespeare is one of the world’s most famous playwrights. Historians aren’t sure exactly when he was born, but most agree that it was probably April 23, 1564 (Andrews v). He not only was successful writing plays, but also with writing poetry. From 1592 to 1595, the theater Shakespeare presented his plays in had closed, which left him with no means of income (Rowse 198). To compensate, Shakespeare wrote sonnets instead.
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
I have always found writing hard but now I enjoy it more. I 'm not going to lie and say that it 's easy for me because it 's hard. I get lost with my thoughts a lot. What I say sounds way better then when I put it down on a paper. I have been wanting to write a small book of something.
Reflection I know I have creativity in me, yet sometimes I have found and still find it difficult to express myself properly. Some people are able to express themselves more easily verbally, others on paper, and some just don’t know where to begin. At the beginning of this semester, I considered myself lacking in all of the sections listed above. Throughout the semester I was glad that this course guided me toward improving my writing techniques. This course also allowed me to see that criticism can be taken in a positive form and thus help me expand my hidden abilities.
Over the this past semester in freshman composition I have learned how to write a college level paper. Going into this class, I was a little unsure and scared that I wasn’t going to be able to do the things that were required for me to do. As the semester passed I could definitely see a change in my writing. I learned how to use the appropriate punctuation, how to write and refute an argumentation paper, which I believe is my strongest piece of writing and how to research and gather information to write a strong research paper. I knew coming into this class that I was going to struggle with my punctuations, word choice, and the overall flow of the paper.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
Skills such as proper grammar and MLA format still need some adjustment. Even though I have things to improve, I was still able to improve some areas of my writing skills regardless even if it was a small improvement. In the beginning, like
There is a well told saying that you have a great opportunity to make an initial impression with your writing. From individual connections to business gatherings, we are taught that individuals' structure feelings with us in no time flat, and that we ought to be prepared to demonstrate our best at all times. Each one of us has our own particular style of interacting with others whether it be in writing or face to face communication. In the past, I have severed in leadership roles in which I had people following me.
What does writing mean to me? Writing means getting people engaged in your piece. It means people wanting to keep reading what you wrote. The biggest thing about writing to me is expressing your thoughts and letting your mind go. Using good word choice and having a strong voice in the writing is something that makes it good.
At first, I was slightly apprehensive about critiquing a fellow classmate’s written paper. The first thoughts that popped into my mind were, what if I give wrong advice on any corrections? What if my classmate gets offended by my comments? On the other hand, I had to make myself realize that the critiquing assignment was not about what was “wrong” or “correct” in their written work. However, it needed to be seen more as helping to make my classmate’s paper better.
