How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
My Experience in WRIT 101 Imagine, you are halfway done with your last and final high school English class and realize you have never really understood the point of English class until now. In all my previous English classes I was so lost and never really understood anything my teachers taught me. I was always so anxious and nervous because I was afraid that everyone else would think I was dumb since I did not understand and know as much as them. WRIT 101 has changed that and now my grade in this class is the best it has ever been in an English class thanks to Mrs. Schlauch. Over the semester, I have grown and developed as a writer, demonstrated awareness of rhetorical situations in my own writing and applied the skills and practice I have
Over the course of the semester, my main goal was to become a more precise writer and develop my identity as a writer. According too, the Portfolio Letter assignment sheet, becoming a better writer consists of precise planning, draft and revising. It also includes understanding a variety of academic genres by examining the basic characteristics that defines each type. In order too efficiently meet my goal of becoming a better writer, it was very important to have my work evaluated by others and myself as well. The use of rhetorical knowledge, critical thinking, reading and writing all are the important aspects in this course.
Handwriting was one of my first struggles, in the beginning of grade school. It was always something that was very hard for me and I remember that. I had trouble on how to to write the letters and when I did the letters they ended up being enormous and all messy. I could never get my handwriting neat like the teacher would have.
I believe nobody is perfect, especially in writing. All writers have their strengths and weaknesses. For me, I am especially good at being different. I am unlike others in the way that I approach topics. I use my unique thought process towards prompts to accomplish that.
Improving my way of writing essays was a skill I wanted to make better through this term. Writing essays are hard for me but, with time and effort finishing and improving an essay is possible. Through out my three essays I tried to improve the outline of an essay. For essay 1 I was not really sure how to do an outline but for essay 2 and 3 I made sure I had an outline before I started writing an essay. Another thing I improved through my essays were the word usage.
On the first day that you mentioned that we had to select goals to reach by the end of the semester. I was rather hesitant about it. I did not believe that this would help me become a better writer. However, throughout the semester while I continued to do the process to reach the goals I set for myself, I finally saw the point. Although, at times I was dreading the extra work I set for myself, it was paying off within my grades.
Over the this past semester in freshman composition I have learned how to write a college level paper. Going into this class, I was a little unsure and scared that I wasn’t going to be able to do the things that were required for me to do. As the semester passed I could definitely see a change in my writing. I learned how to use the appropriate punctuation, how to write and refute an argumentation paper, which I believe is my strongest piece of writing and how to research and gather information to write a strong research paper. I knew coming into this class that I was going to struggle with my punctuations, word choice, and the overall flow of the paper.
From the beginning of the semester until now, my writing skills improve just a bit. In the beginning, my writing demonstrated wordiness, bad word choice, and clarity. Thankfully, Writing 010 introduced abstract outlines and sentence core. It helped me in creating clarity in my writing and take out excessive writing in my papers. At the same time, the sentence core helped me removed my wordiness.
As a writer, I have always felt most comfortable when writing papers from an objective point of view. Therefore, any time I am asked to write about myself, or from a personal place, it is a challenge for me. My biggest concern when telling a story about myself, or just in general, is that there is no purpose for telling it. I constantly have to ask myself if there is a meaning or reason behind my narratives or if I am just boring the reader with some story that does not affect their life at all. This memoir assignment was no exception.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
What does writing mean to me? Writing means getting people engaged in your piece. It means people wanting to keep reading what you wrote. The biggest thing about writing to me is expressing your thoughts and letting your mind go. Using good word choice and having a strong voice in the writing is something that makes it good.
I have spent my entire life trying to discover and understand who am I, when I joined the Coaching class and was asked to introduce myself for 3 minutes it sounded like a breeze in the sand. Then I was asked to do it again without repeating my introduction and boom that was easy once more. In my head I am a Human Resources professional and all we do is talk when interviewing, reprimanding, training, coaching, guiding, accessing and many more times. Then the last blow came I have to introduce myself for the third time round, my thoughts were racing what have I not said about myself, what did I tell the 2 previous candidates, “what’s new Daisy, you have to find it think! think!
Writing is a skill that is necessary for life. Writing gives you the ability to express yourself in ways that talking could not. From a young age, I loved to write. Writing acted as a scapegoat to me. It allowed me to vanish from reality.
Within every subject at school, reading, writing, and chemistry posed a big challenge for me during my high school years. I excel in most subjects, but these three were the hardest to get. The key solution to my problem was to put my mind to it and do very best that I can. This wasn’t easy and I couldn’t do it by myself, there were several factors that allowed me to overcome the difficulties and excel in all subjects. At the reading I was horrible, I couldn’t understand anything I read “What’s the purpose behind reading?”
