Reflective Essay On My Writing Skills

From the beginning of the semester until now, my writing skills improve just a bit. In the beginning, my writing demonstrated wordiness, bad word choice, and clarity. Thankfully, Writing 010 introduced abstract outlines and sentence core. It helped me in creating clarity in my writing and take out excessive writing in my papers. At the same time, the sentence core helped me removed my wordiness. The sentence core focused on removing “to be” verbs and replaced them with active verbs. When writing papers, I rarely pay much attention to my wordiness and it would eventually make me get off topic and it would create confusion in my papers. The sentence core helped me create clarity in my sentences. Also, the abstract outlines also helped with crafting my essays as well. It outlines what my thoughts are at first and eventually gets my brain to reflect more about the issue of the topic. The outlines also helps in making me see what I currently have and what I currently need in my paper. Instead of feeling the pressure to get it done, why don’t I start with an abstract outline to help me understand what my thoughts are? They were not supposed to be used as synonyms for each other. Instead, they were two different words that relates to an individual’s identity. But when I wrote this down on paper, my thoughts on the idea was not clearly expressed, which made it difficult to understand my meaning behind it. When writing, clarity is the most important part as it portrays your perspective and ideas to the reader. Without clarity in the sentences, reader will feel lost when reading it and eventually resulting in a misinterpretation of the writing and
