Reflection
I know I have creativity in me, yet sometimes I have found and still find it difficult to express myself properly. Some people are able to express themselves more easily verbally, others on paper, and some just don’t know where to begin. At the beginning of this semester, I considered myself lacking in all of the sections listed above. Throughout the semester I was glad that this course guided me toward improving my writing techniques. This course also allowed me to see that criticism can be taken in a positive form and thus help me expand my hidden abilities. The fact that everyday there was something new to learn and experience was refreshing. I really liked the different workshops that we were involved in every week. I believe that they provided a great opportunity to help me share and listen to the ideas that the readings provoked. After each session I was able to understand the readings much clearer. I also liked that in some of the workshops we were able to share and analyze our creative writing pieces. This was very beneficial for me because it allowed me to see if my ideas were getting across to the reader just as I had hoped. My peers’ feedback also helped me think of different ways to express what I truly wanted in my creative writing pieces. The feedback I received on google drive was also very beneficial when it came to improving my stories and play. I had some difficulties using google drive, when it came to editing the documents, but other than that I was very happy with the system. The fact that it stored all of our documents in one folder and we were able to share it was a great plus. I also liked that I was able to see all the revisions that I had made with my drafts. I had never attempted to do such an assignment but I’m glad I had this opportunity. The process of writing the play script helped me push myself to improve some of my writing abilities. Writing ten pages of dialogue proved to be a challenge for me. There were times that I didn’t know what I wanted the characters to say. I would constantly question if the audience would ultimately feel a connection to what was occurring in the play. After much struggle I was able to finish my first draft. I felt happy to have finished the script yet I also felt that I had held myself back somehow. I believe that I had made the play predictable because I wanted to play it safe. I decided to alter my first draft completely after taking into consideration the feedback that I had received. I believe that the changes that I made to the script made the final product stronger and
