Emergent self-knowledge of personal writing influences how approaches will be taken to develop writing skills in students. Utilisation of a writer’s journal enables emerging writers to understand relationships between the purpose of a journal activity and the intended audience (Bishop, 1996, p.34). Acknowledgement of self-emergence as a writer enables the author to include additional information into their work for clarity of the text, therefore enhancing that knowledge attained, ensuring the writer understands the importance of skills associated with writing polished pieces of writing. It is important for educators to have a refined understanding of language and how it works. Research shows the more understanding an educator has on developing writing skills in their students, the task involved will become less complicated, resulting in meaningful learning experiences for students (Loane & Muir, 2017, p. xviii).
Why Comp I is So Valuable I believe that there are several reasons why Composition I is a valuable course for college students to take. Some of the reasons Comp I is so valuable are 1) it improves your writing skills, 2) it teaches us the different types of writing, and most importantly 3) it teaches us to manage our time wisely and effectively. Without the course Comp I, I believe that students wouldn’t be prepared or as prepared to take on the real world. Writing skills are something that most people don’t just have.
I selected these two papers because I thought they were the two I could most improve on. With the “The Sounds” I worked on grammar and rewording a few cliche’ sayings. I also added a little of dialogue and fixed my work cited page and finally cleaned up the ending, and also added a little to it. With the “The Teen Suicide Epidemic” I again worked on grammar and also some spelling.
Writing is great until you have to sit down and do it. The sentences never seem to flow into the brilliant paragraphs I had planned for them, and descriptions never build the picture the way it was drawn up in my head. I have never been entirely confident in my ability, probably for good reason. That said, I have always had a love hate relationship with writing; I can sit down and crank out a report on my high school’s basketball team in a half an hour, on the other hand I had to write limericks in my seventh grade English class and I am still working on them.
As English 5B progresses through the year, an aspect of this course that has helped me improve my writing. I have always struggled with writing but English 5A helped me with starting my papers, as rather English 5B helps me improve my writing and show me how to further develop my ideas. At the start of this semester, we started talking about evaluations in order to prepare us for our first writing assignment.
After reading Stephen King's essay "Reading to Write" (72) it opened my eyes for writing. Although being a professional novelist isn't a goal I want to pursue in my life, writing is something I will need to learn how to do with good form. When it comes to the writing department, it's not one of my best skills. King says, "Good writing, teaches the learning writer about style, graceful narration, plot development, the creation of believable characters, and truth-telling" (73). I will try my best to become a good writer.
Writing is a very person way of communicating an idea or topic. I have never been much of a reader in my english classes but I always enjoyed writing as a student. I can definitely improve in my writing and strive to do so because I believe it is a good skill to have. My three weaknesses relating to writing is that I am a rushed writer, my confidence level isn't high, and I tend to have a hard time stringing together ideas on what to write about. When I am given in assignment in english for homework I tend to rush through what I am doing to get in done in the least amount of time possible.
I enjoy writing, exploring the many combinations of words you can mash-up together forming a unique story, drawn to the many forms of writing you can choose to create. I have a grasp of the English language, however I am nowhere near my goal of being the best writer I can possibly be. Someday I may hope to publish a book of poems whether

Before taking writing skills two I 've had a positive mindset towards writing because I see it as a way to express my thoughts. For example, whenever I feel a bit melancholy writing a short story or just free writing always makes me feel a bit better. On the other hand, I don’t believe I’m the best writer because like every other student I make mistakes in my writing. Although, I don’t take the editing negatively I always look back at my past essay and try to reflect on them to see how I can always improve my writing skills. Overall, I have a pretty good mindset towards writing even though I have my mistakes I know if I study harder I can become a better writer over time.
“Girl Next Door” by Hathaway Brown starts off by saying “All the pinups in magazines / Movie stars on the silver screen / Don 't do anything for me / Can 't you see.” Then he continues the song with “She 's the girl next door / Nice but naughty / A heart that 's pure / She 's the girl next door / Just for me.” In summary, what this song is saying is that the singer knows this girl that means a lot to him.
My Writing Struggles After taking AP English III, I became better at organizing my papers, but realizing I need to improve my grammar skills and staying focused on my supporting points. All throughout my writing career, I was always thought to be an outstanding writer, especially using vocabulary above my grade range. Naturally, I would see myself as an excellent writer as well until I took Mrs. Bingham’s AP English II course. Mrs. Bingham always gave pointers, tips, and work to improve my class’s writing skills as a whole.
Writing is a skill that is necessary for life. Writing gives you the ability to express yourself in ways that talking could not. From a young age, I loved to write. Writing acted as a scapegoat to me. It allowed me to vanish from reality.
Actually, if I’m being honest, my family sucks at writing. I was never placed in any special writing classes, but only the standard classes for school. I joined Intermediate composition to excel in my writing for my future. From this class, I’ve broadened my vocabulary and found new ways to check my pieces that I have wrote. I could always use more work with grammar because I have always struggled with that concept.
