This final project calumniates what I have learned of the storied history and presence of Blacks at the university of Pennsylvania but while exploring Blacks and their very important role in Penn’s history, It was very clear to me that an important part of Penn’s Black history was missing. Throughout history Black have suffered from a lack of equity and access. While Penn as always promoted inclusion in their recent history, as Black male at Penn with learning disabilities, I was confronted with and comforted by the obstacles that gave me a unique perspective of campus life at Penn, this perspective contributed to my personal history of black culture as Penn as seen through the eyes of a Black learning differently abled student. This personal journey is why education is so important to me but ultimately college is not solely about what professors are trying to teach, it is about finding your path and I now know my path is more clearly defined by my experiences as black male in the “Ivy Tower” that Glasker’s book chronicles. I was a member of Penn’s pre freshman program and through that education; I found myself intrigued by the history of the Dubois college house and how living there would contribute to my intended path as well as my education. Instead of Dubois, I was placed in Fisher college house in the quad. The purpose of the college house as it was explained to me was “an organizational manner that places academic activity in a community setting of students and faculty, with shared meals and a sense of community.” I did not find that in my experience living in fisher but I did find this representation of the college house description from those who were fortunate enough to live in
