The development as a reader grow gradually during the semester. I have started applying tecniques that I have not be accustomed to before the course. The tecniques are writing on the margins the main ideas of the paragraphes, circling unknown words, and underline the important things. Before employing the tecniques, I was frequently taken away with emotions. That stopped from reading the book effectively with the speed. Most of the time the book was abandoned forever, because I lost the track, and therefore the interest and reason to continue reading. I did not give a chance to the book's author to state his viewpoint completely. I deployed the approach of focused reading in The Other Wes Moore. The book is full of emotion-provoking events that may make one upset. However, by using the techniques there are more important purposes in my mind to think about than crying over the sad situations. However, I see some improvements in understanding of writing such as the words may mean a lot of different things; and the purpose of the author is to make the right impression to his/her reader, so to speak, to help the reader to interpret the point made correctly. I cannot stop thinking of the example of curtain. Indeed, if there were no curtains in the living room, it could mean the variety of possibilities. I must admit I have never thought of options in people's mind other than the most evident one. Another big progress I made in the semester is the ability to produce the massive volume research paper. Recently, my fear was paralysing, which could not help me to produce anything. But by braking piece by piece, problem and solution approach, further - statement, example and explanation approach - the task gradually gets less intimidating.
