Nothing has brought so much creativity and frustration out of me quite like essays. I would focus most of my effort into the content and a minuscule effort for formatting as well as citation. I have found a new appreciation for MLA format, which helps convey a sense of professionalism and organization. Learning the basic building blocks of an essay have helped lay a solid foundation for our academic careers and beyond. Throughout my secondary education the process of researching was one of many restrictions and contradictions. The Teacher would assign a topic but only give us a handful of credible websites according to her. The content of these websites was often very generalized or content that could have come from a text book if you will. It was frustrating having to have great ideas and alternative resources with a wealth of in-depth explanation as well as real world applications and not be able to use it. The worst came when it came to present our findings. The teacher would try to grade based off her original rubric but in the end she would end up rearranging her rubric or become complacent. …show more content…

My teacher never really taught us what MLA format was really for or why we even used It, not understanding why you are doing something and loosing point regularly just added to the frustration. The only practical use I found for MLA format was that my teacher was able to write corrections between the lines a lot easier. I didn’t think it was useless but I think the fact that I didn’t know what I was really doing that made me believe it was. My biggest fear was writing scholarship essays because I would fear that they would not choose me due to a couple of format errors, luckily I did receive
