So often readers don't know what they will expect from a book. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 many things seemed to happened that were unexpected. It’s very relevant to readers in the modern world to read this book. Fahrenheit 451 has a powerful message to modern readers because of the similarities and differences between the novel and our world.
The book was very informative of life when racism was more apparent. I think that books like this show that standing up to racism is an option. It shows that even children of a younger age were involved in the situation.
It is a heart wrenching story, but it gives you perspective. We sometimes fail to remember how hard people worked in the past for the equality of today. This book helps people remember not to take freedom for granted, and it also allows us to remember those who lost there lives because of injustice. I would also recommend this book because Ida B. Wells was from Mississippi. It is important to have an appreciation for history, especially the history of the state that you live in.
The Devil’s Arithmetic, a novel by Jane Yolen, is very inspiring to me. It explains the feelings of not only just Hannah, but many others. It lets me know that in any situation, you can always persevere. Although this book can be sad, the sadness is powerful. It takes you to a whole new perspective of the Holocaust, not just through facts, but actually living it.
In the book How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster, the first chapter illustrates the elements and ideas of quests in literature. Foster starts off the chapter with a hypothetical story where an average sixteen year old boy named Kip goes to the A&P, a local super market, to buy a loaf of Wonder Bread. Along the way, Kip unpleasantly encounters a German shepherd but meets Karen, the girl of his dreams, laughing with Tony Vauxhall in his ‘68’ Cuba. Kip continues to search for the bread in the store, but he is disturbed by a marine asking him to join the Navy. The story is immediately paused, and Foster analytically explains how Kip’s trip to the A&P was actually a quest.
An amazing book, with a ton of amazing lessons that are taught in the book. This one takes place in Maycomb, Alabama during the Great Depression. In this time, the Jim Crow laws were still in effect, and because of it, even an American citizen would be treated differently, because of a skin color.

Censorship in America can vary between the silencing of young voices and the prevention of exposing others of inappropriate material. Many people are afraid of losing their freedom of speech, as first amendment rights should be mandatory for American citizens. Polar to this argument insists the importance of censorship, as it can shield the public from information that can lead to fear or chaos. Leaving students ignorant to world problems, however, is argued by Sonja West that it removes their first amendment rights and creates a future working-class of Americans who are clouded from the truth. West is a law professor at the University of Georgia who is distinguished for her expertise in the first amendment law and minor in journalism.
The author Gladwell helped the reader to reach his message by providing characters with common experiences and turn them into positive experiences. He used characters to help the reader to find hidden messages. Gladwell was trying to make hidden messages easy to locate as a person reads deeper in the chapters within the book, he made this clear since the beginning of his book. The importance of the book is demonstrates how a legacy that includes culture can have failure and can be turned around into success just by an off chance (Locklear, 2016). Gladwell gives the reader a sense of empowerment showing the public to feel self-righteous because they too can become a famous song writer or athlete if they to put in their 10,000 hours of dedicated work to what they love to do (Locklear,
If we take a non-fiction book that was written in 1922, we might ask ourselves whether the book is relevant in this day and age. One such book was written by the author F. Scott Fitzgerald and it goes by; “The Great Gatsby”. The contents of the novel actually hold pretty valuable and relatable materials regarding materialism in today’s society. It also touches on the idea that people are not what they seem to be even if they say they are. This in and of itself is highly relevant because human behavior stays fairly comprehensible throughout history.
There are many reasons that the Chrysalids is a relevant story in this day and age like hate, segregation, prejudice, but the ones I think that are the most important are racism and ignorance. I think this because in today's society, racism is a very big and occurring problem. People treat others differently because of their race. ”Only the image of god is man” (Wyndham 18). I quote means that if you don’t look exactly like god then ur not “proper” so you need to die.
Always Running is a memoir written by Luis Rodriguez about caution gang life in East Los Angeles. Fiction needs (or needs not to be) included in the curriculum because it has important information on how it could change someone life in a gang trying to change it all around. The message of the book is that gang and violence lead us to nowhere. Gang’s are all over the world with people mostly dying because of gangs and drugs handed out and arrested for being in a gang to many people aren’t doing the time but they can do the crime. Many people have life issue dealing with gang’s around their neighborhood hearing gunshot everyday but no one saying anything.
Is Aldous Huxley’s dystopian novel Brave New World still a relevant text in today's modern society or is it no longer relevant in today's modern society? Yes, Aldous Huxley's novel Brave New World is most definitely still relevant in today's modern society. Even though Brave New World’s society is pretty much different from our society today, there is still some things that are still relevant today that are in the book. One thing that Brave New World is relevant in our modern society today is the drugs and alcohol. In Brave New World, the soma is what the people use for a drug.
How to Read Literature Like a professor chapter1 In the first chapter of How to Read Literature Like a professor author Thomas C. Foster discusses how almost every story has some type of quest, the title of chapter is “ Every Trip Is a Quest (Except When It’s Not)” he clearly alludes to the fact that the chapter is about the quest aspect of a story and its significance. As the chapter developed Foster began to cover the essentials of a quest and the purpose behind a quest, according to him there are five significant aspects of a quest “(a) a quester, (b) a place to go, (c) a stated reason to go there, (d) challenges and trials en route, and (e) a real reason to go there. He then expands of each of these things.
In the movie, The Book of Eli, the world changes to a cold, bare place, a place that nobody wants to end up in. Most of the people turn into scavengers and have lost eyesight or the ability to read without any books because of the war. The little towns that are still thriving are being taken over by people who want power. The people of the town are being treated badly and food, water, and cleanliness is very scarce. Eli has been a walker for thirty years who is also blind.
