The Aztecs were a Native American tribe who thrived in the years 1345 to 1521 AD in Mexico. Religion was very important to them, especially their relationship with the god of the sun and war.The Aztecs religious beliefs greatly influenced the development of their civilization and culture including the areas of society, warfare, architecture, and technology. The Aztec religion focused on many gods. They were dedicated to keeping their gods happy in hope to in return be keeping themselves safe. The gods symbolized different aspects of nature.(1 Aztec religion)A common belief among the tribe was that they were living in a fifth world and that the four that came before it were all destroyed due to some kind of natural disaster.(2 Aztec religion) In order to keep natural disaster from bringing their world to an end too they constantly worked towards pleasing the gods. Inside the shrines were where people would place offerings and every individual shrine was devoted to honoring only one god. (222-223 aztec world) Temples were also important structures. Temples were where many religious ceremonies were held. They were also where Aztecs believed rulers could communicate with the gods. Many temples were designed to hold sacrifices. They also each included a room in the back where an idol in whom the temple honored was represented.
