The Aztecs had a huge empire inside a river. Their city was called Tenochtitlan. It was almost as big as the Roman empire, but they fell mainly because of themselves. Three major reasons they fell are their myth , smallpox, and the Spanish. Their myth came true because of them. The first thing is their myth. The aztecs made myth when they first came about. Their myth was that the god Quetzalcoatl would come seek revenge on them for changing who they worshiped. They had originally worshiped Quetzalcoatl , who in their religion was the good god. A major disease they broght was smallpox. The Aztecs didn’t really have multiple sickness’. The people had no way to avoid catching the disease and they were clueless about how to treat it. In many cases, everyone in a household died from young children to older adults. With no time or way to control the disease and how many lives it was taking the process of burying the bodies became almost impossible. Homes along with the families were both destroyed at the same time. Before they settled down inside the river, they were looking for a symbol. That was how they decided where they lived. The symbol was an eagle eating a snake. That represented their God. By living on the river, it made diseases harder to get. When the Spanish came, they brought many diseases, including smallpox. The disease killed thousands. The last thing that helped bring the to an end were the Spanish. When the Spanish came, they had higher technology. Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes overthrew the Aztecs by force and captured Tenochtitlan in 1521. The spanish had a different religion. They were Roman Catholics.
