“A picture is a poem without words” – Horace. Art influences people each and every day. Art is large part of History and is full of grace and elegance. Two influential time periods that impacts our history is the High Renaissance period and the Impressionism period. Both time periods have left a mark on art culture and will always be some of the most memorable times in art history. Throughout this paper we will look into these time periods and compare and contrast the differences in each period. In addition, we will see how we can relate with these cultures with ours today.

Both time periods had an emphasis on light. Renaissance paintings used lights to emphasize volumes. Impressionism used lights to give luminosity to colors. Another similarity between the two is that artist from both time periods flourished within their era. Between Raphael and Michelangelo in the Renaissance time period, or Manet and Pissarro in the Impressionism era, both time periods have remarkable and unforgettable artist. Lastly, both time periods celebrate figurative and representational art. All though there are few similarities between the two eras, both time periods in art are some of the greatest in history.
While there are few similarities between the Renaissance period and the Impressionism period they do share many differences. Both time periods shared a different variety of art. The Renaissance era is an art movement whereas Impressionism is an era. The Renaissance art culture was older and stayed with traditions whereas Impressionism was new and fresh. The Renaissance era represents society as a reference for a story. Impressionism captures society as a whole. Both time periods in art history were very different from each other but are both beautiful in their own unique
