Background: Renee is a 14-year old female, who’s experiencing dramatic changes in her life. Renee mother is in jail on drug related charges, and her father is no longer in the picture. Also, Renee has to help take care of her five year old sister, who has developmental disabilities. Moreover, Renee is now being raised by her grandmother, who’s from Jamaica. Renee is attending a new Catholic high school in New York City, where she’s struggling to adapt to her new environment.
Factor I: Social Role Problem Identification
Environmental Subsystems: Voluntary Association and Economic/ Basic Needs The above problems are now spreading to other areas of Renee’s life. Due to her parents not being involved and them having issues of their own, this has led to Renee acting out in school. I believe Renee’s grandmother should invest in a support group, such as a church, Girl’s Scout or a sport. This will help in contributing to Renee’s focus and maneuvering her through life circumstances in a productive way, so she can effectively fulfill her social roles in society. It is important that Renee’s needs are met and she is being cared for properly. Renee needs a healthy environment, so she could develop in a healthy way. My perspective is Renee is in need of a support system, because she’s seeking love, affection and wants attention.

Having that support system will teach Renee knowledge on how she should conduct herself at all times. The environment plays a major role in Renee’s behavior. Now that Renee is going to a new school, her surroundings are different, and this has created her to react differently due to the new environment, and issues she’s dealing with.
Factor III: Social Role Problem
