A popular subject today is on the topic of Democracy and a Republic. Many people may think these are the same thing, but they are not. Although they have similarities, they still have some differences. There is one key difference between the two. This key difference lies in the limits placed on government by law. This has implications on minority rights. At the same time, both of these forms of government use a representational system. A representational system is a system where citizens vote to elect politicians to represent their interests and form the government. In a republic, a constitution protects certain rights that the government cannot take away. In a Democracy, the majority is not restrained and it can impose it’s will on the minority. In this pledge, we are pledging to a republic, not a Democracy. Our government today is considered a republic government. The republic form consist of sovereignty, which is in each individual person. The Democracy is the opposite in this particular subject. Their sovereignty lies in the group instead. In a republic, the group only has advisory powers. In the Democracy the minority has no rights. The constitution actually guarantees every state a republican form of government. No state can join the U.S, unless it is a republic state. The people have natural rights, instead of civil rights. The people are also protected by the Bill Of Rights. In a Democracy, there’s no such thing as a significant minority. There are also no minority rights, besides civil rights. Only five out of the first ten amendments apply to U.S
