When Christopher Columbus sailed to the Americas in 1492 america was Discovered which he also took our gold and tried to take the native land. Although Christopher Columbus marked a turning point in history, he was not the hero he’s said to be. For one, he enslaved countless amounts of natives after his arrival in the “New World”. He believed they’d make good servants and put them to work finding gold for him. He also mutilated these enslaved people if they did not find enough gold for him. They were usually punished by the loss of a limb and, on occasion, by death.

On October 12, 1492, an Italian merchant by the name of Christopher Columbus landed on an island in the New World. With him he brought three ships and a small crew of Spaniards. After exploring other islands, Columbus came one that he called Hispaniola; here, they found seemingly primitive and naϊve natives that they immediately began to take advantage of. However, little did they know that this first meeting would bring exploration of South and Central America that would wreak havok among the Natives. Throughout the period of European Expansion, Natives were ripped from their home and forced to work day in and day out.
During Columbus’s arrival to the New World, Indians were being converted and used as slaves for work. The Native Americans dissented themselves from Europeans. As Daniel stated about dissent, Native Americans felt apart from others such as Britain and Spanish colonies. Throughout North America, the “white” people continued to expand until they made it to a land now called California. Boorstin found that a “person who dissents is by definition in a minority”.

It was considered normal and accepted by the communities to have African Americans to be your servants.
