Would you ever want to compete in the Olympics of Berlin Germany 1936? This Olympics is vastly different from all the other Olympics. The 1936 Olympic Games took place in Berlin and were affected by the escalating tensions in Europe these tensions led many contourers to decide where they would stand in the olympics.
During the 1930s, Germany was going through a change of leadership, which transformed the country from a broken country, to a strong force. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum describes for visitors that “The Holocaust era began in January 1933 when Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power in Germany” (1). Before the Nazis came into power, “On May 13, 1931, the International Olympic Committee, headed by Count Henri Baillet-Latour of Belgium, awarded the 1936 Summer Olympics to Berlin” (“The Nazi Party” 1). Doing so will have affected the world on how they view Germany. The committee would not have known the shift the government would take therefore, their decision to allow Germany to host the olympics would remain a conflict for years leading up to it. “The Olympic Games were a perfect arena for the Nazi propaganda machine, which was unsurpassed at staging elaborate public spectacles and rallies” (“The Nazi Party” 5). This allowed the dictatorship of the Nazi party to bring forth how great their country was doing, but behind it they were still executing thousands. Propaganda was a huge part of the Nazi party's image, without it the party would not become the party at the 1936 olympics. The Reich Press Chamber “issued numerous directives regarding coverage of the Olympic Games, limiting the scope and content of reporting by German journalists” (“The Nazi Party” 5). The media could not publish until the Nazi Government overlooked what was being stated, many reporters felt they no longer were able to print the truth of what was happening in their country. Without the truth being represented the German Jewish population would continue to dwindle in numbers and Germany would continue to rise in strength and power.
