“You can’t ever have my books” (Bradbury, p.35). A woman is burned with her books because she did not obey the law. Could such extreme measures go through because did not obey the law? The book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a dystopian novel that shows what our world could look like in the future. In the book Fahrenheit 451, firemen burn books instead of fighting fires. The society bans books because they don’t want people to think of ideas for themselves. What are some aspects in Fahrenheit 451 that differ from modern society? This is because they don’t want people to feel inferior compared to other people. They want people to have the same knowledge of life so people could not show up other people. This also prevents jealousy and arguments. There are a few ways Fahrenheit 451 make people have the same thing as each other. For example, there is a form of technology called the parlor. It is a room in the house that has a tv on each wall. The parlor is very popular and it is almost in every house in that society. The people in the society think the tv’s are really fun and engaging. For example, Mildred, the wife of Guy Montag, said, “It’s really fun. It’ll be even more fun when we can afford to have the fourth wall installed” (Bradbury, p.18). Mildred feels like she has a deep attachment to the walls. . The real reason she likes the parlor is because all her friends have the parlor also. “I went to Helen’s last night” (Bradbury, p.47). Helen is one of Mildred’s friends. Mildred goes to her house so they both could engage with the parlor together. People have fun doing something if someone does it with them. Both societies use technology in a similar way. Both societies have cars. In Fahrenheit 451, they have this one brand of car called the Beatle. Beatles are very fast cars and people use them to get rid of their frustration. “I always like to drive fast when I feel that way” (Bradbury, P.61). Mildred said that to Montag to explain that riding fast helps her calm down. The modern world also has cars. Unlike Fahrenheit 451’s society though, the modern world has many types of cars. They have sporty cars like the Lamborghini and Ferrari. They also have strong vehicles like the Jeep and Ram. They even have family vehicles like minivans and SUVs. Both the societies also use technology in a different way. In Fahrenheit 451, the technology is much more limited than it is today. The main technology they use is the parlor walls. The parlor walls are the most famous technology in the society. They are basically tv’s that have people inside them. The people can talk to the person who owns the parlor and they can have engaging conversations. The person who owns the parlor has a script that says what they are supposed to say at what time. It is like a reality tv show with the script already lain out. In the modern society, technology is much more relaxed. It is not as limited and there is more of it. The technology the society has today are many. There are phones, computers, cooking
